Piano Concerto No. 2 (2018)

Nelson Goerner (piano) & NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tadaaki Otaka

Dit concert, live opgenomen in Tokio op 20 mei 2009 met het NHK Symphony Orchestra onder leiding van Tadaaki Otaka, biedt een nieuwe kans om de poëzie van Nelson Goerner volledig tot zijn recht te laten komen. De poëtische benadering wordt gezien als het handelsmerk van de pianist in zijn opnames van Chopin of Debussy. Maar zijn vertolking getuigt ook van een onfeilbare virtuositeit, met een precisie en kracht die hem tot de meest vooraanstaande pianisten van onze tijd maken. Deze opname was er een die Nelson Goerner heel graag wilde maken, want hij beschouwt Brahms' Tweede Concerto als een immens meesterwerk. Het werk, dat in 1881 in Boedapest in première ging met Brahms zelf aan de piano, genoot onmiddellijk succes bij zowel critici als het publiek.
