François-Xavier Roth en Les Siecles, die veel lof oogstten voor hun opname van Mahlers 1e Symfonie met historische instrumenten, richten nu hun aandacht op diens 4e Symfonie. Samen met Sabine Devieilhe, die haar stem laat schitteren in het beroemde slotdeel, tonen zij hun visie op dit werk, dat staat voor de overgang van de componist naar de moderniteit, met ongewone klankkleuren en instrumentale balans. De polyfone transparantie van Mahlers grote orkest had nog niet al zijn geheimen prijsgegeven!
