The Trio Koch, consisting of two violins and a piano, is a family affair. The father, Philippe (violin), his daughter Laurence (violin) and son Jean-Philippe (piano), explore the original and little-played repertoire of trio works for two violins and piano, performing music from all periods, from Bach to Shostakovich and Berio, taking in Mozart, Moszkowski, Martinu and Bartók along the way. Their projects include performances in France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, UK, Spain, Japan… The audience has witnessed the keen musical empathy their family’s long artistic heritage has given them.

Een heerlijke debuutcd. Ik kijk nu al uit naar de tweede

"Moszkowski, Milhaud, Martinu: naast het feit dat hun namen allitereren, hebben ze gemeen dat ze stukken hebben gecomponeerd voor de wat ongebruikelijke combinatie van twee violen en piano. De Suite opus 71 van Moszkowski, leermeester van Thomas Beecham en Joaquín Turina en eind negentiende eeuw populair door zijn korte pianostukken, is een heerlijk eclectisch stuk waarin onstuimigheid en sentiment hand in hand gaan. Het Trio Koch, bestaande uit vader Philippe en dochter Laurence op viool en zoon Jean-Philippe op piano, geeft een schitterende uitvoering van dit duivels lastige stuk, afwisselend innig en bevlogen, en teder en contemplatief. Een groter contrast dan met de Sonate opus 15 van Milhaud is nauwelijks denkbaar. De Kochs schetsen trefzeker de overwegend landerige sfeer van dit charmante opus met zijn weelderige texturen: soms lijkt er een heel strijkorkest te spelen. Martinu’s even beknopte als meesterlijke Sonatine uit 1930, ten slotte, barst van de energie met zijn onregelmatige ritmes, neoklassieke en jazzy karakteristieken en invloeden van Moravische volksmuziek. Wederom verbluft het samenspel van de musici, in het bijzonder de opmerkelijke twee-eenheid van vader en dochter op viool, of het nu in het prachtige schrijnende Andante is of in de uitgelaten finale."
