Langverwachte nieuwe release van de Gramophone Record of the Year winnaar Vox Luminis!

De begrafenisdienst van Queen Mary, die aan pokken overleed, moet in 1695 ook in muzikaal opzicht een aangrijpende gebeurtenis zijn geweest, ook al heeft Purcell volgens recent onderzoek slechts een korte hymne en twee stukken voor schuiftrompet bijgedragen. In feite werden de Funeral Sentences van Thomas Morley gehoord, die hier samen met begrafenismuziek van Purcell, Tomkins en Weelkes worden uitgevoerd. Vox Luminis onder Lionel Meunier slaagde hier in werkelijk ontroerende realisaties.

Deze opname bevat de muziek voor de begrafenis van Queen Mary en werd ook gebruikt bij de begrafenis van Elizabeth I in 1603. Het programma wordt gecompleteerd met sublieme a capella liederen van Purcell en een ontroerend volkslied van Weelkes over de dood van Thomas Morley.
