In januari 2020, na zijn laatste openbare concert in Rome en slechts enkele maanden voor zijn dood, voltooide Ennio Morricone (1928-2020) het werk aan deze prachtige en nog niet eerder gepubliceerde collectie als een "afscheidscadeau", waarin hij thema's uit zijn beroemdste partituren opnieuw verbeeldt als suites voor viool en orkest. Het werk is tot stand gekomen in nauwe samenwerking met Marco Serino en is aan hem opgedragen als eerbetoon aan hun langdurige artistieke samenwerking. Andrea Morricone, de zoon van de componist, dirigeert het Orkest Haydn di Bolzano e Trento.
