Net Brits staatsburger geworden, kreeg Händel in 1727 de opdracht enkele hymnen te schrijven voor de kroning van George II. Hij had waarschijnlijk nooit gedacht dat hij voor zo'n waardige gelegenheid zou componeren: Hij maakte dus optimaal gebruik van de gelegenheid en creëerde muzikaal vuurwerk van ongekende weelde. Het RIAS Kammerchor en de Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin veredelen deze sprankelende stukken - waarvan sommige nog steeds bij elke kroning worden gespeeld!
