Stile Antico

De van oorsprong gregoriaanse ‘donkere metten’ of nachtofficie Tenebrae, uit de liturgie van de Heilige Week, heeft het publiek altijd gefascineerd en bovenal een vruchtbaar terrein geboden voor componisten. Dat was ook het geval met Tomas Luis de Victoria, die alleen sacrale muziek schreef, gevoed door de vele invloeden van zijn jaren in Rome. Zijn Tenebrae Responsories kenmerken zich door een ongeëvenaarde expressieve kracht en rechtvaardigen ruimschoots zijn reputatie als de grootste polyfonist uit de Spaanse Renaissance.
