Deze cd presenteert een dwarsdoorsnede van a capella koorwerken van de met de Cannes Classical Award-bekroonde componist Peteris Vasks (1946), uitgevoerd door het veelgeprezen Letse Radiokoor onder leiding van Sigvards Klava. In navolging van hun succesvolle opname van liturgische Vasks-composities ("Prachtig uitgevoerd, een zeldzaam uitstapje voor Vask's koormuziek" - Gramophone 'aanbevolen'), put het Lets Radiokoor opnieuw uit de buitengewone koormuziektraditie van de Baltische landen, met de nadruk hier op seculier repertoire. Het titelstuk op deze cd is Plainscapes, geschreven in 2002 voor gemengd koor, viool en cello in opdracht van Gidon Kremer. Mediterend op de inspirerende schoonheid van de Letse laaglanden, gebruikt het vocalises om de cyclische wonderen van de natuur te vieren. Birth (geboorte) (2008) voor koor en slagwerk brengt hulde aan de zon als symbool voor het leven.
