Het lijdt geen twijfel dat Bohuslav Martinu moet worden gerangschikt onder de andere grote Tsjechische componisten, zoals Antonin Dvorák en Leos Janácek. Toch worden de werken, zelfs zestig jaar na zijn dood, helaas nog veel te weinig aangetroffen. De compilatie van het meesterlijke Vierde Pianoconcert met de tegenhanger van Dvorák onderstreept het belang van zijn muziek.
